Bárbara Cerón Olvera harpist & Conductor

Born in Mexico City, Bárbara Céron is one of the most versatile harpist nowadays. Graduated from Koninklijk Conservatorium in the Netherlands, she followed her baroque harp studies with Christina Pluhar and classic harp studies with Ernestine Stoop. She also followed a master in Music and Media at the Hochscule der Künste in Bern, Switzerland. Bárbara kept and keep always close to learn some traditional generes currently throughout her studies and career. She is founder of TentEnelAyre Ensamble and the duet Marimbularp with musician and luthier Leopoldo Novoa. At present she is collaborating with Música Ficta (USA-Colombia) and Ars Longa (Cuba). She has performed with artists such as Christina Pluhar, Steve Reich, Paulina van Laarhoven, Gabriel Garrido, Michael Chance, Horacio Franco, Enrique Diemecke, Luis Herrera de la Fuente and Benjamin Juárez Echenique. Her repertoire ranges from renaissance to experimental improvisations, and some music of Mexican popular traditions. Bárbara prides herself on constantly pushing musical limits, for example, with contemporary compositions written for Baroque harp, and in collaborating continuously with artists from other disciplines: theater, film, opera, dance, and multimedia performance. She has been member of ensemble Musica Temprana, Ensamble Lucidarium and Modelo62. She use to work with conductor Gabriel Garrido in different projects like Ensamble Elyma, Chemins du Baroque, Paraguay Barroco and Capilla de las Américas. She has been invited for giving masterclass at Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, Switzerland, Conservatorio Nacional de Lima, Peru, Universidad de Queretaro and at AMA the Early Music Academy in Mexico City (UNAM). She is constantly giving workshops for festivals or cultural organizations. |
